Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is a prion disease. 



CJD is not Mad Cow Disease; it is a variant of it.





CJD mimics other dementias, such as Alzheimer's Disease and Vascular Dementia, BUT CJD progresses rapidly.

In CJD, prion proteins beging folding into three-dimensional shapes, which triggers the prion proteins in the brain to follow suit. The folding of the prions into three-dimensional shapes causes brain cells to be destroyed.
